Autographed manuscript of “Idyll” by Siegfried Sassoon. This is Sassoon's final of four poems written in tribute to Gordon Harbord. Harbord was Sassoon's closest friend of his foxing-hunting years – known as Stephen Colwood in Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man. He was killed at Ypres on August 14 1917. Sassoon wrote out the poem in his diary on 1st February 1918, while he was waiting to embark for Egypt. This manuscript is written in Sassoon's pre-1920s handwriting. Near fine, a little spotting.
